These homeowners were looking to move from their condo to a house in the Historic Fan District. They loved the neighborhood, but were not sure how their modern aesthetic would fit in a historical home. Without touching the architectural details, such as the fluted columns, we managed to design inviting entry, parlor and living room spaces with modern furnishings and a few traditional nods, such as the marble and iron coffee table. There are fun contemporary light fixtures throughout. The soft white walls help feature the extensive art collection. We went bold in the powder room with a graphic blue wallpaper and contemporary pendant to give the room a pop.

On the second floor, we introduced a little color. We completely converted one guest room into his study with built-in bookshelves, desk, a nook for the sleeper sofa and a reading chair for morning coffee. The bookshelves feature a smaller display shelf to feature the homeowners collectibles. The navy blue walls peek through here and there, creating a nice cozy space.

The second guest room serves as her study and loom room for weaving. There is space for her yoga mat and a comfortable bed for houseguests. The softer blue offers a serene backdrop throughout the day.

Their bedroom was updated with a new bed, drapery panels, rug and chest. We recovered a bench to tie it into the room. The hall bath wallpaper was in good shape and new mirrors and lighting gave the space a nice update.
